Facial Sculpting

Facial sculpting is a non-surgical aesthetic treatment designed to enhance natural facial structure, restore lost volume, and create balanced, harmonious contours. Rather than changing how you look, modern facial sculpting focuses on refinement, enhancing cheekbones, defining the jawline, improving chin projection, and creating subtle lift. At Dr Mélanin, we specialise in dermatologist-led facial sculpting tailored for melanin-rich skin, ensuring safe, precise results that complement your heritage and natural features.

Facial sculpting typically involves the strategic placement of dermal fillers to enhance structure and restore youthful proportions. As we age, bone resorption, fat pad descent, and collagen loss alter facial balance. Cheeks flatten, jawlines soften, and the lower face can appear heavier. By carefully restoring volume in key structural areas, we can recreate definition and improve overall symmetry without surgery. The goal is natural-looking enhancement, never overfilled or artificial results. Facial anatomy and ageing patterns vary across ethnicities. In melanin-rich skin, volume loss may present differently, and certain structural features should be preserved rather than altered. Overcorrection can disrupt natural ethnic identity and create disharmony. At Dr Mélanin, our approach is conservative, structured, and culturally sensitive. We enhance your natural structure while respecting facial identity.

Cheek filler restores projection and lift to the mid-face. Enhancing the cheekbones can improve facial balance, reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds, and create a more defined profile. In patients with melanin-rich skin, restoring mid-face support can also subtly improve lower-face heaviness without directly treating it.

Jawline sculpting improves lower-face definition by creating a sharper transition between the face and neck. This can enhance side profile balance, reduce the appearance of jowling, and provide a more structured look. Both men and women benefit from tailored jawline contouring, with subtle differences in angle and projection depending on desired outcome.

The chin plays a crucial role in facial harmony. A recessed chin can make the nose appear larger and soften jawline definition. Non-surgical chin augmentation improves projection and balance, particularly in profile view, without invasive surgery.

Facial sculpting is performed using premium dermal fillers in a clinical setting. A detailed consultation is carried out to assess facial proportions, symmetry, and treatment goals. We focus on full-face harmony rather than isolated correction. The procedure typically takes 30–60 minutes. Mild swelling and tenderness are expected for a few days, with final results settling over one to two weeks.

Results typically last between 9 and 18 months depending on treatment area, product used, metabolism, lifestyle factors, maintenance treatments are usually performed annually to preserve definition.

When performed by a medically trained doctor using precise anatomical knowledge, results are subtle and balanced. The aim is refinement, not distortion.

Most treatments involve numbing cream and fillers containing local anaesthetic, making the procedure well tolerated.

Yes, they are very safe when performed by clinicians experienced in treating skin of colour. In  darker skin tones, the more common complications from dermal filler are actually hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, which is the loss of pigment, and something called haemosiderin deposits. This often happens when you bruise, and then iron from old blood gets trapped under the skin, leaving a sort of pigment just underneath, which can take some time to fade. In most cases the hypopigmentation is mild, sometimes moderate, and it isn’t necessarily more likely that you will pigment if you have a deeper skin tone. With time, these gradually improve.

This depends on facial structure and treatment goals. Some patients require minimal enhancement, while others benefit from a staged approach over multiple sessions.

Filler can provide structural support and mild lifting. However, significant laxity may require combination treatments such as skin tightening procedures.
