Korean Facials
A deeply relaxing ritual for the face, neck and upper back, using Korean formulations chosen with melanin-rich skin in mind.
Understanding Korean facials
A professional facial, gentle by design
A facial is a relaxing professional skin treatment designed to deeply cleanse, exfoliate and nourish the skin, leaving it refreshed, healthy and glowing. It can help remove impurities, unclog pores and improve circulation, which supports skin health at a deeper level. Facials can be tailored to different skin types and conditions, making them suitable for anyone who wants to maintain healthy skin or address specific concerns. Regular facials are an effective way to achieve long-term skin confidence.
At Dr Mélanin, we use products specifically formulated for skin of colour, which are less aggressive, to reduce the risk of post-inflammatory changes such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), a type of dark discolouration that skin of colour can be more prone to.
Two signature facials
Choose your facial
Each facial is tailored to a different stage and need of the skin. Both include a deeply relaxing massage of the face, neck and upper back.
Korean Pink Facial
For menopausal and mature skin
As hormone levels change through the menopause, skin can become drier, thinner and less radiant, and fine lines often become more noticeable. Our Pink Facial focuses on deep hydration, barrier support and restoring a soft, healthy glow.
- Menopausal and mature skin
- Dryness and dehydration
- Dullness and loss of radiance
- Fine lines and rough texture
Includes a face, neck and upper back massage
Korean Black Facial
For acne-prone and congested skin
Our Black Facial focuses on gently clearing congestion and balancing excess oil, without the harshness that can leave skin of colour with lingering dark marks after breakouts.
- Acne-prone skin
- Blackheads and whiteheads
- Oily or congested skin
- Enlarged pores
Includes a face, neck and upper back massage

Your questions
Frequently asked questions
Please reach out to us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
01Which Korean facial is right for me?
Our Korean Pink Facial is best suited to menopausal and mature skin, focusing on hydration, barrier support and radiance. Our Korean Black Facial is best suited to acne-prone, oily or congested skin, focusing on gently clearing pores and balancing oil.
Both include a relaxing face, neck and upper back massage. We will recommend the most suitable facial for your skin during your consultation.
02What concerns do facials treat?
Facials can be used to target a number of skin concerns, including ageing skin, active acne, dryness or dehydration, dull or lacklustre skin, clogged pores (including blackheads and whiteheads), uneven, flaky or excessively oily skin, dark spots or age-related pigmentation, enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, rough texture, hyperpigmentation and discolouration.
03What can I expect during a Korean facial?
Treatments usually begin with a gentle cleanse, followed by exfoliation to remove dead skin cells, and extractions if needed to clear congestion. A mask, serum or specialised treatment is then applied to target your individual concerns, such as dryness, pigmentation, acne or ageing. You may feel a mild tingling, warmth or stinging sensation, which is normal.
Your facial also includes a relaxing massage of the face, neck and upper back, to relax the muscles, reduce tension and encourage lymphatic drainage for a brighter complexion.
Normal activities can resume the same day, with some aftercare precautions which will be discussed in your consultation and provided in your aftercare advice.
04Are Korean facials safe for skin of colour?
Yes, our Korean facials are very safe for skin of colour. The products we use are specially formulated with melanin-rich skin in mind, and are designed to improve hydration, strengthen the skin barrier and deliver active ingredients in a way that minimises irritation while maximising results.
05How many treatments will I need?
Most treatments require at least 2 to 3 sessions to see any visible improvement. The normal skin cycle (the time it takes for old skin cells to be replaced by new ones) is between 4 and 6 weeks, and the older we get, the longer this takes. Most skin treatments need at least 2 skin cycles for any improvement to be visible.
To see results, we generally recommend regular facials at least once every 4–6 weeks. Results are gradual and improve with consistency.
06Is it painful?
Not at all! In fact, our Korean facials are very relaxing.
07Are there any side effects?
Whilst facials are widely performed, well tolerated and extremely safe, like any procedure there are possible risks, which will be discussed with you in detail during your consultation as these vary between individuals.
Common and expected effects, which are temporary and typically resolve within days, include mild redness and swelling, mild dryness, tightness or flaking, increased sensitivity to sunlight, mild itching or stinging, and temporary darkening of pigmentation before it fades (a sign of healing which is common in skin of colour).
08Is a Korean facial suitable for everyone?
We do not recommend this treatment if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have active cold sores, infection, inflammation or broken skin in the treatment area
- Have used isotretinoin (Roaccutane) in the past 6–12 months
- Have had treatments such as laser or microneedling in the area within the last 2 weeks
- Are prone to keloid or hypertrophic scarring
- Have had a recent tan or sunburn within the last 3 months
- Have an autoimmune condition, are receiving immunosuppressive therapy, or have a history of severe allergies or anaphylaxis
Your clinician will go through your full medical history at your consultation to make sure the treatment is right for you.
09Is there any aftercare?
Yes, and following it carefully significantly reduces the risk of side effects. In summary:
- Avoid applying anything to the treated area, including make-up, for the first 24 hours
- Avoid vigorous exercise, swimming pools, saunas and steam rooms for 24 hours
- Wear a minimum of SPF 30 and avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for 14 days
- Avoid sensitising active ingredients such as retinol and AHA/BHA for 2 weeks
- Do not pick, peel or scratch your skin
You will receive full aftercare advice after your treatment.
10When can I see my results?
Our Korean facials enhance the quality and health of your own skin over time. Visible results are not immediate and can take at least 3–6 sessions. We do not recommend a single treatment, as you are unlikely to see any long-term results.
Combining our Korean facials with other treatments such as chemical peels, microneedling or medical-grade skincare provides optimum results, particularly for active acne, deeper acne scars, deep wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and melasma. Results also depend on age, skin quality and lifestyle factors, and cannot always be predicted.
